Now and Forever: The Art of Medieval Time

During this illustrated lecture, Roger Wieck discusses his current Morgan exhibition, Now and Forever: The Art of Medieval Time.

Drawing upon the rich holdings of the Morgan’s medieval and Renaissance illuminated manuscripts, the exhibition explores how people in the Middle Ages told time, conceived of history and conceptualized the Hereafter. Manuscripts, for example, illustrate the quirks of medieval calendars and their charming illustrations. The origin of the timeline is explored through medieval genealogical scrolls. A final section of the show reveals the fascinating geography of the unending time of the Hereafter.
