NY Adventure Club: Behind-The-Scenes @ the Lambs, America’s First Professional Theatrical Club

Located just around the corner from St. Patrick’s Cathedral and Rockefeller Center is one of NYC’s oldest private clubs, where theatre — and later film & TV — bigwigs have rubbed shoulders for nearly 150 years (do John Barrymore and Irving Berlin ring a bell?). Now’s your chance to step inside the clubhouse of America’s oldest professional theatrical club, which has never opened its doors to outsiders…until now.

Join New York Adventure Club for an exclusive, behind-the-scenes tour of the members-only Lambs clubhouse; founded by actors in 1874, this private social club is dedicated to nurturing those active in the arts, as well as those who are supporters of the arts, by providing fellowship, activities, and a clubhouse for its members.

Led by The Lambs’ Assistant Historian, author Kevin C. Fitzpatrick, our exclusive exploration of “The Fold” (Lamb-lingo for meeting place) will include:

  • The history and story behind The Lambs, from its inception during Christmas Week 1874 at Delmonico’s, to how its members were instrumental in founding entities like ASCAP, Screen Actors Guild, and Actors’ Equity Association
  • walkthrough of the private clubhouse to see its historic rooms, collection of Steinway pianos, and famous million-dollar art collection, with paintings by Howard Chandler Christy, James Montgomery Flagg, Everett Raymond Kinstler, and many others
  • A close look at rare theatrical artifacts from The Lambs Archives, including memorabilia, collectibles, letters, and ephemera

The tour will conclude at the club’s bar, where you’ll have the opportunity to mingle with fellow adventurers, purchase food and drinks, and socialize with current Lambs members at their weekly “Low Jinx” night of member performances!
