The Covid-19 pandemic event has already altered the lives of millions of people but we do not yet fully understand its meaning and scope. When did this event begin? When will it end? Will it radically restructure social and political institutions or will we return to "normal"? In other words, what kind of an event will Covid-19 ultimately end up being? This talk will use the framework of political semiosis, presented in my book, What Is an Event? (University of Chicago Press, 2017) to track this pandemic and its eventful impact on our lives.

Presented by Robin Wagner-Pacifici, University in Exile Professor of Sociology.

Prep reading: "Theorizing the Restlessness of Events," American Journal of Sociology, 2010
