Opening Reception of “Fritz Ascher: Expressionist” and “Metamorphoses: Ovid According to Wally Reinhardt”

Please join us for the opening reception of two new exhibitions at the Grey Art Gallery at New York University on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 from 6–8PM: Fritz Ascher: Expressionist and Metamorphoses: Ovid According to Wally Reinhardt. The reception is free and open to the public.

Fritz Ascher: Expressionist presents works by this German Jewish artist, who lived through the Weimar Republic, the Nazi regime, and into the postwar years. The exhibition comprises 75 paintings and works on paper, ranging from Ascher’s early academic studies to his final landscapes.

Metamorphoses: Ovid According to Wally Reinhardt is the largest solo museum exhibition of this New York-based octogenarian artist. Since the 1980s, Reinhardt has exclusively depicted scenes from Ovid’s Metamorphoses, creating vivid, whimsical illustrations in colored pencil, watercolor, and gouache that recount the Roman poet’s time-honored myths.
