The Pat Parker/Vito Russo Library Book Discussion “1984” by George Orwell

Almost 70 years after its initial publication, George Orwell’s classic has a new relevance. It’s impossible to forget Winston Smith, the hero of the story, who predicted, “In the end the Party would announce that two and two made five, and you would have to believe it.”

This dystopian novel examines a world of historical revisionism and alternative facts where a party seeks power for its own sake, persecutes independent thinking and Big Brother is always watching.

Please join for discussion and reflection as we examine the story and its timely appeal.

Made possible by a grant from The Kors Le Pere Foundation and support from the Rubin Foundation.
