Paul Kingsnorth: Confessions of a Recovering Environmentalist

Paul Kingsnorth presents Confessions of a Recovering Environmentalist and Beast in conversation with Amitav Ghosh

Paul Kingsnorth presents his two latest books, forged in the struggle of the environmental movement. Once an activist and ardent environmentalist, Kingsnorth grew disenchanted with a movement unable to make the sacrifices that might avert the severe consequences of climate change. His vision for a path forward is detailed in Confessions of a Recovering Environmentalist, a collection of iconoclastic essays that includes his “Uncivilization” manifesto and his vision for a “dark ecology.” Kingsnorth presents this collection in conjunction with his latest novel Beast, the second in The Buckmaster Trilogy, an epic saga on the existential connection between humans and the landscape. One thousand years following the events of The Wake, Beast tells the story of Edward Buckmaster, as he is pursed and pursuant of an amorphous, primeval creature. Kingsnorth is joined in conversation by Amitav Ghosh, author of the Ibis trilogy and of The Great Derangement: Climate Change and the Unthinkable.

A wine reception follows the reading.
