CANCELED: Person Place Thing Live! With Randy Cohen and Mimi Sheraton

Update Feb. 25: This event has been canceled.

Emmy Award-winning writer and former New York Times’ “The Ethicist” Randy Cohen brings his popular podcast and public radio show, Person Place Thing, to Macaulay Honors College on February 26, when he interviews renowned food critic and writer Mimi Sheraton about a person, place, and thing that have been meaningful to her life. With live music provided by J. Walter Hawkes.

Person Place Thing is an interview show based on this idea: people are particularly engaging when they speak not directly about themselves but about something they care about.  Our guests talk about one person, one place, and one thing that are important to them. The result?  Surprising stories from great talkers. Visit PersonPlaceThing.org for more information.

Mimi Sheraton is a pioneering food writer and former restaurant critic for Cue, the Village Voice, and the New York Times. Her writing on food and travel has appeared in such magazines as Time, the New Yorker, Vogue, Town & Country, New York magazine, and Food & Wine.  She has written sixteen books, including The German Cookbook, first published in 1965 and still in print, and a memoir, Eating My Words: An Appetite for Life.  Her book, The Whole World Loves Chicken Soup, won both the IACP and James Beard awards, and she won a James Beard journalism award for her article on the Four Seasons’ fortieth anniversary in Vanity Fair. She was born in Brooklyn and is a long-time resident of Greenwich Village.

Randy Cohen’s first professional work was writing humor pieces, essays, and stories for newspapers and magazines (The New YorkerHarper’sthe Atlantic, Young Love Comics).  His first television work was writing for “Late Night With David Letterman” for which he won three Emmy awards.  His fourth Emmy was for his work on Michael Moore’s “TV Nation.” He received a fifth Emmy as a result of a clerical error, and he kept it.  For twelve years he wrote “The Ethicist,” a weekly column for the New York Times Magazine.  In 2010, his first play, The Punishing Blow, ran at New York’s Clurman Theater. His most recent book, Be Good: How to navigate the ethics of everything, was published by Chronicle.  He is currently the creator and host of Person Place Thing-Live at the 92nd Street Y. This event is free and open to the public! Please RSVP at www.macaulay.cuny.edu
