As so much of everyday life has rapidly shifted into the digital world, state and local government agencies have emerged as pillars of support providing resources, policy, and guidance to communities, schools, and organizations, both large and small. With local levels of government having such impact in facilitating the rapidly evolving nature of work, it is important to understand the perspectives coming from the public sector.

In a state whose diverse industries range from biotech to poultry farming or defense and aerospace to working watermen and seafood, Secretary Kelly M. Schulz from the Maryland Department of Commerce has a unique perspective and vantage point to watch the future of work unfold. Join us on Wednesday, February 17th at 8:00 pm ET for a conversation with Secretary Schulz, led by IKNS lecturer, Jordon Sims.

The conversation will center on the future of work and how government and industry have been responding, including:

  • shifts in the core areas of work, workplace, and workforce;
  • in-demand and emerging skills in the public sector workforce;
  • the evolution in the nature of careers with the government; and

Kelly M. Schulz brings a wealth of knowledge to the Maryland Department of Commerce from her years of experience working in the government, in the private sector and as a small business owner. She had previously served as the Secretary of the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (DLLR) since her confirmation in February 2015 and is also a former member of the Maryland House of Delegates.

Jordon is a Lecturer for the Master of Science in Information and Knowledge Strategy (IKNS) and Founding Partner of Imperium Global Advisors and advising clients across cyber, tech, defense, startups, and non-profit associations. Jordon has many years of legislative, political and professional advocacy experience globally. Most recently in government, he was the Chief of Staff for Congresswoman Kay Granger (R-TX), the senior Republican for the House Appropriations Committee and the most senior Republican woman in Congress.

Jordon is currently researching the future of work and co-teaches the IKNS course Navigating the Future of Work.
