Poetry Reading with Diane Mehta, Monica Ferrell, Maya Phillips & Julia Guez

Born in New Delhi, India, Monica Ferrell grew up in northern New Jersey. The recipient of various fellowships, residencies, and awards, Ferrell’s second poetry book You Darling Thing was published by Four Way Books in September 2018. A graduate of Harvard, she holds an MFA in poetry from Columbia University’s School of the Arts and was a Wallace Stegner Fellow at Stanford University. She is Associate Professor of Creative Writing at Purchase College (SUNY).

Julia Guez’s poetry, essays, interviews, and translations have appeared widely. In an Invisible Glass Case Which Is Also a Frame, her debut poetry collection, is forthcoming from Four Way Books in September 2019. The recipient of various awards and fellowships, Guez holds degrees from Rice and Columbia. For the last decade, she has worked with Teach For America; she’s currently a managing director of programming there. She also teaches creative writing at Rutgers and writes poetry reviews for Publishers Weekly. Guez lives in Brooklyn and online at wwwjuliaguez.net.

Born in Frankfurt, Germany, and raised in Bombay and New Jersey, Diane Mehta studied with Derek Walcott and Robert Pinsky in the nineties and has been an editor at PEN America’s Glossolalia, Guernica, and A Public Space. Her book about writing poetry was published by Barnes & Noble books in 2005. She lives in Brooklyn, New York. Her debut poetry collection Forest with Castanets was published by Four Way Books in March 2019.

Maya Phillips was born and raised in New York. Maya received her MFA in poetry from Warren Wilson’s MFA Program for Writers and her BFA from Emerson College. Her poetry has appeared widely, as has her arts & entertainment journalism. Maya currently works at The New Yorker, and as a freelance writer. She lives in Brooklyn. Her debut poetry collection Erou is forthcoming from Four Way Books in September 2019.
