A poetry workshop led by Taylor Mali — four-time National Poetry Slam champion and one of the original poets featured on HBO's Def Poetry Jam — centered on the Morgan Library's exhibition Friends Who Came to See Me: Drawings from John Ashbery's Collection.
The session opens with a before-hours tour of the exhibition, followed by a two-and-a-half-hour workshop using the work on view as a springboard for writing prompts, discussion, and reflection. No writing or poetry experience required.
Mali is the author of five poetry collections and the nonfiction book What Teachers Make: In Praise of the Greatest Job in the World. He curates the Page Meets Stage reading series at the Bowery Poetry Club in Brooklyn.
