Private Gallery Tour – Dialogues with Warhol

With Marla Prather, curator, Department of Modern and Contemporary Art

Although it has often been claimed that Warhol is the most influential artist of the last half-century, no exhibition has truly examined that assertion in depth. Presenting 150 works in a broad range of media across five decades, the show is built around five themes, including vernacular subject matter, celebrity portraiture, and issues of sexual identity. Key works by Warhol will be juxtaposed with examples by some fifty leading artists. The show will be arranged as a series of thematic vignettes to suggest how artists worked both in parallel modes or developed Warhol’s model in dynamic new directions.

Luncheon with the curator follows the tour.
