Safety for Whom Public Forum

How is our understanding of “public safety” shifting in light of the nation’s racial reckoning? What will it take to end our nation’s legacy of racist policing? Can we eliminate the presence of police in schools and the use of excessive force against youth? What is the role of the public defender and what steps can communities take to empower themselves to address the legacy of over policing? What could real justice look like?

Featuring Sherrilyn Ifill, Professor Angela J. Davis, (American University College of Law), Professor Kristin N. Henning (Georgetown Law), Rick Jones (Executive Director Neighborhood Defender Service of Harlem), Sally Lee (Executive Director, Teachers Unite) and musical performances by the Resistance Revival Chorus and jazz pianist sensation Matthew Whitaker.
