Purple Prose: A Quarterly Reading, Writing, and Mingling Event.

We are pleased to introduce an all-new event! Much like Tableaux, we hope to bring art, inclusiveness, and sparkling conversation together, this time with stories instead of drawing.

This first event’s theme is “Secrets.” All of the stories read will involve that theme.

What is Purple Prose?
A quarterly reading, writing, & mingling event from the creators of Tableaux and The Dirty Boys Reading series. Each event will be focused on a theme or writing prompt. All of the readings will be about that theme. The first theme will be “secrets.”

Who Reads?
The readers will be a combination of hand-picked writers and those selected beforehand from submissions. Each of the readings will be 5-10 minutes on that event’s theme and it will be the only time we will ask for quiet from everyone at the event.

What Else?
There will free zines with many of the story submissions, books for sale, writing prompts to take home, conversation starters, and lots of mingling! We are hoping to foster a diverse group of writers, readers, artists, and anyone who enjoys conversation and stories.

Purple Prose is a consent forward environment – Please ask before casual touch, and check in before more.

New, curious, or just have a question? Look for a friendly face wearing a red ribbon – who are always happy to meet new faces.

We ask for a $5-10 donation to help pay our readers, for flowers, and to facilitate PR and photos. We appreciate any and all contributions from those who can help.
