The 30 foot-long National Tribute Quilt is a monumental response to the events of September 11 spearheaded by the Steel Quilters of United States Steel Corporation. Incorporating 3,466 blocks from all fifty states and several international countries, it has been on continuous view at the American Folk Art Museum since 2002. This fall the quilt travels to the Boca Raton Museum of Art in Boca Raton, Florida, as part of the American Folk Art Museum traveling exhibition Politics NOT as Usual: Quilts with Something to Say.

Lee Kogan will discuss the powerful and poignant quilt within the context of America’s long tradition of quilts of conscience, quilts that have been created to express the quiltmaker’s views on pressing political, social, and environmental issues.

Please note: a facsimile of the National Tribute Quilt will be on view.
