Reform at Rikers: Creating a Culture of Safety at the NYC Department of Correction

New York Law School’s CityLaw Breakfast Series returns on September 16th with a talk by Correction Commissioner Joseph Ponte, who will discuss “Reform at Rikers: Creating a Culture of Safety at the NYC Department of Correction.” In his more than 40-year career, Ponte has served in jails and prisons around the country including in Nevada, Florida, Tennessee, New Jersey, Rhode Island and Massachusetts and has earned a national reputation as a successful reformer.

Anthony Crowell, Dean and President of New York Law School and former counselor to Mayor Bloomberg and Professor Ross Sandler, founding director of the Center for New York City Law at New York Law School, will give opening remarks.

CityLaw breakfasts are held six to eight times a year at New York Law School and feature prominent speakers discussing current government and political issues.  They are free and open to the public. The events are often broadcast by NYC Media cable television throughout the five boroughs and are webcast live at www.citylandnyc.org.  Founding sponsors of the breakfasts include Consolidated Edison, Verizon, and Greenberg Traurig.
