Rizzoli Music Aperitivo: Jazztopad Festival with Hamid Drake & River Sister

When: Sun, Jun 21 at 5:00pm - 6:45pm

Where: Rizzoli Bookstore
1133 Broadway

212-759-2424
Price: $33.85

Rizzoli Bookstore transforms its NoMad space into an experimental living room for a world premiere collaboration: drummer and percussionist Hamid Drake joins River Sister for an evening of forward-looking improvisation, presented in partnership with the celebrated Polish festival Jazztopad.

By the late 1990s, Hamid Drake had established himself as one of the leading percussionists in improvised music — drawing from Afro-Cuban, Indian, and African percussion traditions alongside the standard drum kit, and collaborating with Peter Brötzmann, Fred Anderson, and Ken Vandermark, among many others. River Sister brings a lyrical string voice to the pairing, making this a genuine meeting of two composers and improvisers with distinct but complementary sensibilities.

The event is part of Rizzoli's ongoing Music Aperitivo series, curated by Mondo Jazz, the weekly Radio Free Brooklyn program dedicated to international jazz. The American edition of Jazztopad is presented in partnership with the Polish Cultural Institute New York and the Adam Mickiewicz Institute.

Doors open at 4:30 pm. Show starts at 5:00 pm. Seating is limited and first come, first served. Tickets include a 15% store discount valid the day of the concert and a complimentary glass of wine from Field Blend Selections.
