Halpern_Martin_267x400Composer/librettist Martin Halpern presents his chamber opera “The Sacrificer,” freely based on Euripides “Iphigenia in Tauris,” and using classical materials as a parable about present-day terrorism.  Halpern, a retired professor of English and American Literature, at Brandeis, U. of California/Berkeley, and others, often bases his original operas on classics by Chekhov, Ibsen, Strindberg, and others. Cast is Jann Degnan, Sarah Kleeman, Aram Tchobanian, and Jim Trainor, accompanied by pianist Earl Buys. Performances Feb. 25-27, 8 PM, at Davenport Theatre, 354 West 45 St., NYC.
