Sea Stories is day focused on exploration, conservation, scuba diving, shipwrecks and marine life. This will be a great opportunity for those who are interested in the ocean to interact. Tickets will NOT be sold at door.

Featuring presentations from:

David L. Mearns, FI’91 – “The Golden Age of Shipwreck Hunting.”

Marine scientist, award-winning author and deep-sea shipwreck hunter, Mr. Mearns found and filmed some of the world’s most famous shipwrecks. Awarded five Guinness World Records, including one for locating the deepest shipwreck ever found at 5,762 metres; Mr. Mearns led the discovery of 25 major shipwrecks.

Mr. Mearns most important finds include Lucona – a cargo ship at the center of a sensational European murder trial; Derbyshire – a bulk carrier lost with all hands which led to new structural requirements for bulk carriers; and HMS Hood – the British battlecruiser sunk by the German battleship Bismarck, which was also filmed by Mr. Mearns and his team.

He received an honorary Medal of the Order of Australia for locating and filming the wrecks of HMAS Sydney II and AHS Centaur, solving these long-time Australian mysteries. Mr. Mearns was awarded the Maritime Fellowship Award by the UK-based Maritime Foundation for an outstanding lifetime contribution. He is the author of three books, including The Shipwreck Hunter, winning the Mountbatten Award for Best Book of 2018.
