Shuggie Bain: An Evening with Booker Prize Winning Author Douglas Stuart

Join The National Arts Club for an evening with Douglas Stuart, author of New York Times Bestseller and 2020 Booker Prize winner Shuggie Bain. This debut novel tells the heart-wrenching story of a young boy and his alcoholic mother, whose love is only matched by her pride.

Hugh “Shuggie” Bain spends his childhood in run-down public housing in Glasgow, Scotland. It’s the 1980s and Thatcher’s policies have put husbands and sons out of work, and the city’s notorious drug epidemic is waiting in the wings.

Douglas Stuart was born in Glasgow. He earned an MA from the Royal College of Art in London and since 2000 has lived in New York City. His short stories have been published in The New Yorker and he is currently at work on his second novel.

The presentation will include a reading, moderated discussion, and Q&A with the author.
