Silk Stockings and a Bible: An Immersive Theatre Event

Silk Stockings and a Bible is a spicy Swing Era drama about the trials and tribulations of a Harlem chorus girl. The play was play #2 in the trilogy Women You Thought You Knew which had a run at IATI Theatre in 2017 returns to the stage this time as an immersive theatrical event in Harlem at Ginny’s Supper Club on July 16th.

The show will have the audience be part of the action and journey back to the 1940’s with the assistance of a live band in an evening of dining, drinking and dancing! The cast will interact with the audience in nightclub and bar scenes to allow you to be part of the story as patrons. So bring your dancing shoes!

The play is written and directed by Stephanie Lynn Wilson and stars China Colston as the torn chorus girl Fannie; Stacey Griffin as the smitten sailor JC; Marsha-Ann Hay as the materialistic chorus girl Doris; Santi Rodriguez as wiseguy/impresario Sammy G; Chuk Obasi as bartender/musician Buddy; and Stephanie Lynn Wilson as ex-chorus girl/barmaid Sassy. Veteran musicians Les Kurtz on piano, Carol Sudhalter on sax, and Dave Colding on bass will offer swing tunes during scene changes and intermission.  Chanteuse Janie Braxton chirps some tunes from the era.

Show runs for one night only on Monday, July 16, 2018. Ginny’s Supper Club, has the retro feel of a speakeasy and is downstairs in the popular Red Rooster at 310 Lenox Avenue, just off 125th Street. Doors open at 6:30pm to allow time to order dinner and drinks before showtime at 7:30pm.

Price of ticket does not include food and beverage but an evening back in time with theatre and live music.
