Who would have thought that years after Hemingway’s legendary challenge to wrote a novel in six words—"For sale: baby shoes, never worn"— Papa would have unintentionally created one of the hottest modern literary trends?
In 2006, SMITH Magazine gave the six-word story a personal twist, calling it the Six-Word Memoir. Now, after more than half a million Six-Word Memoirs on SMITHmag.net and a bestselling book series, SMITH Magazine and the Jewish cultural mavens at Reboot celebrate the book release of Oy! Only Six? Why Not More? — Six Words on the Jewish Life with a live storytelling show.
Elizabeth Wurtzel (author, Prozac Nation), Deborah Copaken Kogan (author, Shutterbabe), Amichai Lau-Lavie (founder, Storahtelling), Rachel Sklar (founding editor, Mediaite), Lynn Harris (author, Death By Chick Lit), Anthony Giglio (The Wine Wise Guy) and Gillian Laub (photographer) will start with a Six-Word Memoir and then reveal the backstory in six minutes. At the show’s end, the audience is invited to share a Six-Word Memoir during a “Six-Word Slam.”
