Skirts: Fashioning Modern Femininity in the Twentieth Century

Dr. Kimberly Chrisman-Campbell, author of Skirts: Fashioning Modern Femininity in the Twentieth Century, traces the shifting roles of women over the 20th century through the era’s most iconic and influential dresses. Look at the history of 20th-century womenswear through the lens of game-changing styles like the little black dress and the Bar Suit, as well as more obscure innovations like the Taxi dress or the Pop-Over dress. Dr. Chrisman-Campbell is an award-winning fashion historian, curator, and journalist. She is the author of Fashion Victims: Dress at the Court of Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette, Worn on This Day: The Clothes That Made History, and The Way We Wed: A Global History of Wedding Fashion. She has written for The Atlantic, The Washington Post, and The Wall Street. She was also a 2020-21 NEH Public Scholar and a 2021-22 USC Libraries Fellow.
