Society, Community, and Culture: Ronald Lockett in Context

Director Camille A. Brown will perform an excerpt from her Bessie award-winning production Mr. Tol E. Rance, followed by a dialogue between Brown and Farah Jasmine Griffin, Prof. of English & Comparative Literature at Columbia University.  The performance and dialogue event, on the subjects of race relations, the deep South, and civil rights, is a companion to the current exhibitions of the work of Ronald Lockett, a self-taught, African-American artist from Alabama who shared the same cultural themes in his work.

“Society, Community, and Culture: Ronald Lockett in Context” is on Tuesday, August 9, at 6:30 pm at the American Folk Art Museum, 2 Lincoln Square (Columbus Ave. at 66th Street.)  Tickets: $10 members, $15 non-members.  Visit http://folkartmuseum.org for more information and tickets.
