Special Preview Screening of PBS Documentary Into the Night: Portraits of Life and Death

Green-Wood will host a special preview screening of Into the Night: Portraits of Life and Death, a new feature-length documentary from the Emmy award-winning Director Helen Whitney. Through the lens of religion, science, art, and the natural world, nine individuals from varying walks of life explore diverse perspectives on death and dying and challenge us to rethink our place in the universe.  Into the Night will be broadcast on PBS on March 26, 2018, 9pm ET.

Before the screening, at 1:30 p.m., death educator and funeral director Amy Cunningham leads a salon-style panel discussion of key subjects from Into the Night, creative members of the death positive movement, and innovators in eco-burial, including:

  • Adam Frank, Ph.D., astrophysicist, NPR commentator and author, (interviewed in “Into the Night”) has developing advanced supercomputer tools for studying how stars form and die at the University of Rochester.
  • Tieraona Low Dog, M.D. (also interviewed in “Into the Night”), is an author and an internationally recognized expert on herbal medicine and women’s health. She is a frequent guest on NPR’s “The People’s Pharmacy.”
  • Bess Lovejoy, author of Rest in Pieces: The Curious Fate of Famous Corpses, is a staff editor at Mental Floss and a member of The Order of the Good Death, a collective of death positive and green burial professionals.

After the screening, there will be a Q & A session with the film’s director, Helen Whitney.

3:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.: Screening and Q & A Session in the Historic Chapel
