Sunday Platform | Mark Dunlea: The Green New Deal

The Green New Deal combines the need for an emergency climate mobilization to end fossil fuels and rapidly transition to 100% clean renewable energy with the enactment of an economic bill of rights: guaranteed living wage jobs, universal health care, housing, and education. I will review the origins of the GND and the status of the various proposals at the state and federal level. Will also provide an update on the state of climate action.

Mark Dunlea is chair of the Green Education and Legal Fund. He was a member of the 350NYC Steering Committee while living in NYC and helped coordinate work on divestment from the City and State public pension funds. He co-coordinates the statewide campaign for 100% clean energy by 2030 and off fossil fuels now. He is one of the original authors of the Green New Deal. He is active with PAUSE (People of Albany United for Safe Energy), the 350 affiliate in the Capital District. He is a graduate of RPI and Albany Law School, and was the long-time Executive Director of Hunger Action Network of NYS. He was a Co-founder NYPIRG.
