Backs Each Sunday Following “Subway Story (A Shooting)” Aim to Elucidate Pressures Driving Gun Violence in Young People

“Ways to Stop Gun Violence in America” with Shaina Harrison of New Yorkers Against Gun Violence

Shaina Harrison is the Program Director of New Yorkers Against Gun Violence Education Fund (NYAGV ED Fund). She has worked with the NYAGV Ed Fund for over ten years to reduce gun violence through education designed to encourage action, influence public opinion and lead to policy change.  Shaina educates and supports young adults and community members by building a capacity for leadership in communities that are plagued by conflict, low self-esteem, poverty, and an overwhelming sense of powerlessness.  Shaina runs the  NYAGV Education Fund’s public school program, ReACTION. ReACTION’s full year, the for-credit curriculum helps students resist guns and gun violence through hands-on activities that focus on personal and group responsibility, community engagement, and leadership and advocacy skills.

Prior to working at the NYAGV Ed Fund, Shaina was a certified mediator working with the Crown Heights Mediation Center.  She was also a crisis intervener and Youth Court Coordinator with the Murry Bergtraum High School. Shaina Harrison holds a B.A. from John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
