The Art of Travel Writing with Matt Ortile (Virtual)

A four-week online course on travel writing for beginners and those looking to sharpen their skills in narrative, place-based nonfiction.

Students study travel articles from publications including Travel + Leisure, AFAR, the New York Times Magazine, and the Atlantic to understand the anatomy of different story types — service journalism, reported features, best-of lists, and immersive narrative — then apply those techniques to their own work. Readings draw from writers including Maggie Shipstead, Gary Shteyngart, Ligaya Mishan, and Stephanie Danler, among others.
