The Bronx Opera in “Dialogues of the Carmelites”

The Bronx Opera returns with four performances of Francis Poulenc’s masterwork Dialogues of the Carmelites, performed in English.  At its heart, the opera tells the story of Blanche de la Force, a young noblewoman who becomes a Carmelite nun.  The Reign of Terror in 1794 France forces the nuns to choose between their vows and conformity.  Unwilling to renounce their religious life, they ultimately choose martyrdom.  Blanche flees in confusion and terror, but as the nuns march to their deaths, Blanche reappears to join her sisters at the guillotine.

Performances May 6 & 13 at 7:30 pm, and May 7 & 14 at 2:30 pm at Lehman Center, 250 Bedford Park Blvd. West, Bronx NY.
