‘The Chocolate King: Life & Legacy of Milton S. Hershey’ Webinar

From KISSES chocolates to the classic HERSHEY’S Milk Chocolate bar, The Hershey Company, founded by Milton S. Hershey, has brought delicious goodness to the world for over 125 years. But how did a Pennsylvania farm boy with the equivalent of a 4th grade education create one of the largest chocolate companies in the world? It’s time to journey to Hershey, PA — “Chocolatetown, USA” — to uncover the incredible legacy, landmarks, and community established by America’s undisputed king of chocolate.

Join New York Adventure Club as we explore the incredible rags-to-riches story of Milton S. Hershey — a confectioner from Central Pennsylvania whose novel chocolate-making technique of using fresh milk and new approach to chocolate manufacturing helped him grow his business into one of the world’s largest chocolate empires.

Led by Jennifer Henderson, Senior Archivist for Hershey Community Archives, our virtual experience surrounding Mr. Hershey (1857-1945) will include:

  • A look back at Milton S. Hershey’s early life as he traveled the nation trying his hand at candy making
  • How Milton Hershey rose from a candy-peddler to The Chocolate King
  • An in-depth look at the model industrial town of Hershey, Pennsylvania where Mr. Hershey built a community for his workers
  • digital showcase of Hershey, Pennsylvania’s most historic locations, including The Hotel Hershey, Hershey Theatre, and his original chocolate factory
  • discussion of the lesser-known philanthropic legacy he left for the Hershey community, which continues to fund local public endeavors including schools, hospitals, and cultural institutions
  • An exclusive look at rare archival photographs, films, and documents from the Hershey Community Archives

Afterward, we’ll have a Q&A with Jennifer — any and all questions about Hershey are welcomed and encouraged!
