The Drama of Art Deco

This photo-packed tour gives an up-close look at dazzling Art Deco gems from downtown to the Upper West Side. You’ve stared at them in wonder — the Century, the Majestic, even the “Ghostbusters” building — now see the incredible details bottom to top and learn from a true expert how this vibrant new approach to aesthetics, craftsmanship and materials combined to create enduring symbols of luxury and modernity.

Anthony W. Robins has been guiding natives and visitors to the city’s wonders of steel and stone for 25 years. He has led hundreds of walking tours and given countless lectures on New York history and architecture. He is the author of five books, two of which, Subway Style and, most recently, New York Art Deco: A Guide to Gotham’s Jazz Age Architecture, have won a New York City Book Award from the New York Society Library. Robins served for 20 years on the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission and continues to promote historic preservation as a consultant, notably preparing nominations of New York City properties to the National Register of Historic Places. He currently serves on the Board of the New York Preservation Archive Project and is Vice President of the Art Deco Society of New York.  In 2017, the Guides Association of New York City honored him with their “Guiding Spirit Award.”
