‘The Enduring Enigma of Roy Lichtenstein’ Webinar

Why is it that works of the premier American pop artist Roy Lichtenstein continues to elicit strong reactions from both his fans and his detractors almost 60 years later? It’s time to explore the life’s work of an artist that has defined the pop art movement for over half a century.

Join New York Adventure Club as we explore the artworks and inspirations of legendary pop art artist Roy Lichtenstein, whose stylized pieces showcasing everyday objects and motifs throughout commercial and popular culture simultaneously earned him the praise of art critics and accusations of plagiarism.

Led by award-winning comic book art illustrator and historian Arlen Schumer, this uplifting “visualecture” filled with stylized images and art will include:

  • How fellow pop artist supreme Andy Warhol played a role in Lichtenstein’s early career breakthrough
  • Where and how Lichtenstein’s works both resembled, and differed from, his source images
  • A deep dive into many of Lichtenstein’s most famous artworks and where they can be viewed in person
  • What some of the actual comic book artists — whose work was Lichtenstein’s source material — actually thought of him

Afterward, we’ll have a Q&A with Arlen — any and all questions about Roy Lichtenstein are welcomed and encouraged!

Can’t make it live? Don’t worry, you’ll have access to the full replay for one week!

See you there, virtually! $10.
