The Last Mona Lisa: An Evening with Jonathan Santlofer

Jonathan Santlofer is a double-threat—a crime writer who is also an accomplished artist. He is the author of six novels, including Anatomy of Fear and international bestseller, The Death Artist, both of which combined his talents to create page-turners featuring original illustrations. He is also the author of his poignant memoir, The Widower’s Notebook, which was a Publisher’s Weekly best book of 2018. His most recent novel uses the real-life theft of the Mona Lisa from the Louvre in 1911 as the premise of a clever, twisty mystery.

The National Arts Club presents Santlofer in conversation with the prolific and award-winning author Joyce Carol Oates. Her 58th novel, Breathe, was inspired by the 2019 death of her second husband. The New York Times called the book, “a fever dream of a novel… and it’s as an allegory of grief that it most sparkles…’” Something that in these unprecedented times many can recognize only too well.
