All hail the knish. The wrapped pastry of Jewish extraction stands for eternal life, cultural continuity and co-existence. Born in the Pale of Settlement, the stuffed dough arrived in the US as immigrant food. Today, it's a catalyst for community.  Baked or fried, round or square, sweet or savory, the knish serves as fodder for stories and memories.  Bring your own and come hungry for legends from the Midwest, New York's Lower East Side, and Laura Silver's ancestral town of Knyszyn, Poland. With Laura Silver, the world's leading expert on the knish.
