World-System Theory is an approach to the study of later world history through the analysis of a universal division of labor consisting of core, semi-periphery and periphery countries. It is becoming increasingly pertinent to the understanding of the current global situation. The waves of economic crises observed particularly in dominant countries during recent decades bring into the fore a possible shift of the idea of the “core.”
