The Typography of Walter Hamady With Master Printer Ruth Lingen

On the occasion of our exhibition Remembering Walter Hamady: Selections from the Perishable Press, join us at the Center for Book Arts for a talk with master printer Ruth Lingen.

A former student of Hamady’s and now founder of Line Press Limited, Ruth Lingen has a grounding in printing and bookmaking alike. Lingen will be discussing the typography used throughout the Perishable Press editions, while looking at specific examples from the exhibition. Join us for a night of conversation and close-looking, as we chip away at some of Walter Hamady’s most impressive works. These examples will be of special interest to people interested in hand typesetting.

The Center for Book Arts promotes active explorations of both contemporary and traditional artistic practices related to the book as an art object. The Center seeks to facilitate communication between the book arts community and the larger spheres of contemporary visual and literary arts, while being a model organization locally, nationally, and internationally within the field. We achieve this through exhibitions, classes, public programming, literary presentations, opportunities for artists and writers, publications, and collecting.
