As the ups and downs of the trade dispute roil markets and the U.S.-China relationship, join one of the world’s most experienced and respected trade negotiators for a look at the current state of play. Do the latest rounds of U.S.-China talks have a realistic chance of ending the trade war? What might “winning” look like, for the U.S. and China respectively? How is the rest of Asia responding? What impact will congressional approval of a new trade deal with Canada and Mexico have on the U.S.-China tensions? How do the talks compare to other U.S. trade priorities, including ongoing talks with the EU and Japan? And what will the consequences be–of a deal, or stalemate–for the two nations and for the global economy?

Wendy Cutler is Vice President of the Asia Society Policy Institute (ASPI) and Managing Director of the Washington D.C. Office. She joined ASPI following an illustrious career of nearly three decades as a diplomat and negotiator in the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative. Most recently she served as Acting Deputy U.S. Trade Representative, working on a range of U.S. trade negotiations and initiatives in the Asia-Pacific region. In that capacity she was responsible for the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement, including the bilateral negotiations with Japan. She also was the chief negotiator to the U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement.

Tom Nagorski (moderator) is is Executive Vice President of Asia Society. He joined the Asia Society following a three-decade career in journalism — having served most recently as Managing Editor for International Coverage at ABC News.
