Oliver Stone and Lewis Lapham set the stage for the new Showtime 10-part documentary and book The Untold History of the United States, offering 92Y a first look at the potentially controversial findings that will make us consider whether we use American exceptionalism as a cover for imperialism.
Multiple Academy Award-winner Oliver Stone (once called "Dostoevsky behind a camera") has directed such iconic movies as Platoon, Wall Street, JFK, Natural Born Killers and W, and is known for his often controversial point of view and probing exploration of weighty historical and political topics. In The Untold History of the United States, a new book written with American University professor Peter Kuznick, they present our country’s "secret history," one that has been unearthed through recently discovered archives and newly declassified material. Correspondent Lewis Lapham and moderator Thane Rosenbaum join them in this eye-opening discussion.
The new book The Untold History of the United States is a companion to Oliver Stone’s 10-part documentary series on Showtime, premiering November 12th.
