The World of Gustav Mahler

Naomi Lewin, former host of weekday afternoon music on WQXR, joins the 92Y School of Music for a discussion about the new podcast Embrace Everything: The World of Gustav Mahler.

Her guests are Aaron Cohen, award-winning producer for New York Public Radio, and leading Mahler authority Marilyn McCoy. In addition to reporting for NPR, and producing full-length music programs for public radio, Lewin is host and creator of the popular syndicated program Classics for Kids.

The Embrace Everything series is an exploration and celebration of the music of Gustav Mahler (1860-1911) via a journey through his symphonies. Each season, Aaron Cohen will guide listeners through one of these landmarks of the orchestral repertoire, drawing on interviews with leading Mahler interpreters and scholars, readings from the letters of Mahler and his contemporaries, and music from the symphonies themselves. Season 1, which is devoted to Mahler’s Symphony #1, launched on July 7—the 160th anniversary of Mahler’s birth.

Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions live over chat at the conclusion of the program.
