Thy Sweetest Nectar: The Love Letters of Jane and Ralph Malbone

A one-of-a-kind tour for a one-of-a-kind love story. Join us for an intimate evening tour and reception and explore the recently rediscovered letters of Jane Schenck and Ralph Malbone, two young, willful lovers from early nineteenth-century Brooklyn. For more than five years, they corresponded in secret, with their passion surviving the disapproval of Jane’s parents, the War of 1812, a smallpox epidemic, and accusations of an illegitimate child.

The tour begins in our Library with a presentation by Giana Ricci, Libraries and Archives Kress NYARC Fellow, followed by a small reception. It concludes with a tour of the historical Schenck family homes, including the house that Jane grew up in, located on the fourth floor in our Period Rooms.
