Ticket To…Afghanistan

Using a novel as a launching pad, our monthly Ticket To series explores a nation through its history, cuisine and culture through the lens of a novel.

This month, we travel to Afghanistan through Nadia Hashimi’s book, A House Without Windows, with journalist and host Beenish Ahmed.  The novel explores gender in this traditional culture through the eyes of a woman who is jailed after she can offer no alibi on the night of her husband’s brutal murder. As she awaits trial, she discovers a unique sisterhood with her fellow incarcerated women.

Beenish will talk to Nadia Hashimi, Afghan American poet Zohra Saed, Afghan pianist Elham Fanous as well as Amy Waldman, who covered the beginning of the war in Afghanistan for the New York Times.
