TimesTalks Art & Design Festival: Christo

Be inspired by a wide-ranging special presentation from the legendary artist Christo, celebrated worldwide for environmental works that are monumental yet ephemeral. Over a 50-year collaboration with his wife and artistic partner Jeanne-Claude, the pair created large-scale site-specific works including The Gates in Central Park, Wrapped Reichstag, the Umbrellas, the Pont Neuf Wrapped and Valley Curtain. Following his most recent success, the Floating Piers on Italy’s Lake Iseo, he is devising plans for the Mastaba, a permanent, Islamic-inspired project for Abu Dhabi that will be the largest sculpture in the world, made from 410,000 multi-colored oil barrels. New York Times culture reporter Robin Pogrebin will host the evening and make an extended introduction.

In collaboration with NYCxDESIGN and sponsored by DXV.

Bruce McAllister, 1936-, Photographer (NARA record: 3823134); Environmental Protection Agency; A SIX-TON CURTAIN BILLOWS ACROSS RIFLE GAP – CONCEIVED BY ARTIST CHRISTO JAVACHEFF
