Tobias Meyer is one of the most prominent private art dealers in Manhattan. He was the Principal Auctioneer and Worldwide Head of Contemporary Art at Sotheby’s for over 20 years and has sold countless works by well-known masters. He sits down with neurosurgeon and art collector Frank Moore to discuss how we perceive authenticity: what makes a “true” work of art and how do we recognize it?

Tobias Meyer is a German-born, New York-based private art dealer specializing in Modern and Contemporary Art. For over 20 years, Meyer was Principal Auctioneer and Worldwide Head of Contemporary Art at Sotheby’s. Profiled by the Evening Standard as the “Seller of the Century” and The New Yorker magazine as “The Alchemist,” Mr. Meyer’s art sales and clientele span the entire globe. Together with his husband, art advisor Mark Fletcher, he resides in New York, Connecticut, and Los Angeles with a personal collection that combines eighteenth-century French furniture, Baroque bronzes, and silver with paintings by Andy Warhol, Urs Fischer, and Richard Prince.

Dr. Frank Moore practices Neurosurgery at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York and Englewood Hospital in New Jersey. He bought his first work of art with his Bar-Mitzvah money and never looked back. He and his wife continue collecting to this day.
