Tor Books: #FearlessWomen

Women are shining in every genre of speculative fiction, and it is no longer enough to say “Women are here.” Instead, #FearlessWomen everywhere are taking a stand to say “Women will thrive here.” The #FearlessWomen campaign is an initiative by Tor Books to highlight female characters and authors who are “creating new blockbuster worlds and re-shaping our own.” You can follow the campaign across Tor Books’ FacebookTwitter, and Instagram through #FearlessWomen, #FearlessSF and #FearlessFantasy.

We’re thrilled to host Tor authors SL Huang (Zero Sum Game)K Arsenault Rivera (The Phoenix Empress), and Seth Dickinson (The Monster Baru Cormorant) for a celebration of their work and characters, and a dialogue about women in publishing, their worlds, their voices, and their unique stories. The panel will be moderated by Margot Atwell, Publishing Director at Kickstarter.

K ARSENAULT RIVERA was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, but moved to New York when she was a toddler. While not managing a nutritional supplement store in Brooklyn, K is an avid participant in the role-playing community. Her adult fantasy debut was The Tiger’s Daughter. She currently lives in Brooklyn with her partner.

SETH DICKINSON‘s short fiction has appeared in Analog, Asimov’s, Clarkesworld, Lightspeed, Strange Horizons, and Beneath Ceaseless Skies, among others. He is an instructor at the Alpha Workshop for Young Writers, winner of the 2011 Dell Magazines Award, and a lapsed student of social neuroscience. He lives in Brooklyn, New York.

S. L. HUANG has a math degree from MIT and is a weapons expert and professional stuntwoman who has worked in Hollywood on Battlestar Galactica and a number of other productions. Her novels include the Cas Russell series (formerly known as Russel’s Attic). Her short fiction has appeared in Strange Horizons, Nature, Daily Science Fiction, and The Best American Science Fiction & Fantasy 2016.

MARGOT ATWELL is Publishing Director at Kickstarter and Publisher of Gutpunch Press, an independent press specializing in interesting non-fiction that’s off the beaten track and great stories with memorable characters. They like stories with dark, speculative, or fantastic elements.
