Tour: Preservation and Development on the Historic Brooklyn Waterfront

This sunset tour with architecture historian Matt Postal focuses on Brooklyn Bridge Park, DUMBO, and the Fulton Ferry Historic District. Learn about the area’s mercantile past and vibrant present. We’ll visit the waterfront park’s new north section, which features a modest salt marsh, while considering how various 19th century warehouses like the Eagle Warehouse and Empire Stores have found new uses as apartments and commercial space. Highlights include pioneering examples of reinforced concrete construction by William Higginson, as well as contemporary works by Jean Nouvel and Marvel Architects.
