Trail Maps Then & Now: Looking Back at 100 Years of Mapping Trails

Since 1920, The New York-New Jersey Trail Conference has managed and maintained a well-loved and heavily used trail system stretching across the New York metropolitan area.  The key to providing access to hikers and daytrippers alike are the high-quality trail maps for parks produced by the Trail Conference.

Join us for a free public talk with cartographer Jeremy Apgar on the history of trail mapping in the region over the past 100 years, how maps are made today, and why Trail Conference maps are considered the gold standard for trail maps in the region, and beyond.

A selection of historical trail maps and guides from the New York Public Library’s collection will be on display.
