Enter a world of silks and ribbons, flowers and fancy as you step inside a pop-up Chelsea gallery dedicated to the living art of Duncan Dance! Both Isadora Duncan aficianados and those unfamiliar with the world of Duncan dance will finds something special to enjoy upon attending this Educational Event.

Beginning with a survey of the incredible art on the walls depicting Isadora Duncan and Duncan dancers of various eras and backgrounds, we will relish the history of Duncan dance. After exploring the art on the walls, the “Under the Tunic” Educational Event will expllore Isadora Duncan’s philosohy of movement and teaching, including her guiding thesis, “To dance is to Live!” and her resounding sentiment about teaching: “I don’t teach dance… I teach Joy!”

Then, we will share technical exercises and movement sequences that illustrate the puity of the Duncan technique, and Lori Belilove will share her journey as a “Duncan creative,” including the evolution in her approach to training, teaching, and restaging Duncan dances, creating her own choreography, and more.

Finally, we will introduce how dancers of today train to perform Isadora’s repertoire, and how we as a company have expanded upon Isadora’s classic technique exercises to prepare ourselves for today’s stage.
