Together, they tracked down Klaus Barbie—the “Butcher of Lyon”—and orchestrated his extradition to France, helped clinch the convictions of former Nazis and their collaborators and documented all 76,000 Jews deported from France.

The Klarsfelds stood up to those trying to bury the past, were arrested for trying to kidnap a former German Gestapo chief and had two attempts on their lives. Harassment, beatings and deportations became part of their existence.

For the first time, this unlikely heroic couple—he, a Romanian-French Jew forced to hide in a cupboard when his father was arrested and sent to Auschwitz; she, a non-Jew who grew up in wartime Berlin surrounded by Nazis—are telling their dramatic story in a new dual memoir, Hunting the Truth, which will be published on the day of their appearance at the Streicker Center.
