URONTO: A Talk by Sadya Mizan on the Bangladesh-Based Artist Community

Please join a presentation by curator Sadya Mizan on URONTO, an artist-led open collective in Bangladesh. Since 2012 URONTO has hosted site responsive residential art exchange programs within disused or abandoned spaces and heritage buildings across rural areas of the country. Through these site-specific residential art exchange programs, selected participants are challenged to work with unfamiliar mediums, re-animating the abandoned site and interacting with the local community for seven to nine days. These projects provide a new organic platform for creative practitioners and researchers from from a wide range of disciplines to collaborate and enhance their trans-disciplinary works.

Sadya Mizan is an independent curator in Bangladesh and the founder and Director of URONTO Artists Community (2012). She is also one of the founding trustees of Art Initiatives BD (AIB). Since completing her post-graduate work in Graphic Design at the Faculty of Fine Art, University of Dhaka, Mizan has worked across various fields as a coordinator, creative director, and project director in Bangladesh and has been a Dhaka-based contributing researcher for the Asia Art Archive in India. Since 2017 she has been a member of the Artist-Led-Initiatives forum by Samdani Art Foundation. She was recognized as one of the potential Arts-Managers from South Asian region by the Art Think South Asia Fellowship (ATSA) in 2018.

This program is co-organized by Triangle Arts Association and Asia Art Archive in America.
