Virtual International Holocaust Remembrance Day Program: Under Siege Again? Holocaust Distortion and the Rise of Hate Crimes Against Jews

The Holocaust Memorial & Tolerance Center of Nassau County (HMTC) is joining together with other local Holocaust Centers to host a region-wide program, “Under Siege Again? Holocaust Distortion and the Rise of Hate Crimes Against Jews,” to mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day on the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz in January 1945. Focusing on contemporary antisemitism in the United States and the ground-level efforts to combat hatred in the New York City area, the centerpiece of the program will be a conversation between Mark Weitzman, the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s Director of Governmental Affairs, and Michael Brovner, the Bureau Chief of the Hate Crimes Bureau in the Queens District Attorney’s Office, who will discuss the political dimensions of antisemitism in America today and the challenges involved in prosecuting antisemitic and hate-based crimes at the local level.

This event is sponsored by the Harriet & Kenneth Kupferberg Holocaust Center at Queensborough Community College; the Holocaust, Genocide and Interfaith Education Center at Manhattan College; the Center for Holocaust & Genocide Studies at the US Military Academy at West Point; the Holocaust & Human Rights Education Center in White Plains; the Holocaust Museum & Center for Tolerance & Education at Rockland Community College; and the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County.
