Vishaan Chakrabarti, the founder of Practice for Architecture and Urbanism, will discuss his book A Country of Cities: A Manifesto for Urban America, on June 28th, 6:00pm, at Grand Central Tech (GCT).
Vishaan will expand on his 2018 TEDTalk to discuss the importance of infusing creativity into modern cities so that we can build unique cities of difference. Vishaan is the Associate Professor of Practice at Columbia GSAPP, where he teaches architectural design studios and seminars on urbanism. He has been a guest on The Charlie Rose show, MSNBC’s The Cycle, NY1, NPR, WNYC, and has been profiled in The New York Times and The Financial Times.
Vishaan argues that well-designed cities are the key to solving America’s great national challenges: environmental degradation, unsustainable consumption, economic stagnation, rising public health costs and decreased social mobility. If we develop them wisely in the future, our cities can be the force leading us into a new era of progressive and prosperous stewardship of our nation.
GCT’s goal is to foster a robust community of startups and entrepreneurs that truly reflects the fabric of New York by supporting the development of an inclusive, diverse, and sustainable technology and entrepreneurship ecosystem and creating pathways to access for underrepresented communities in tech.
